Also, the only way Mantle is going to get any traction, such as with BF4, is if AMD basically implements it themselves! Just like TressFX. Crystal Dyanmics would've never done that unless AMD sent their own software engineers there to implement it. Just like how Physx isn't implemented unless Nvidia actively works close with the developers.
Honestly, Mantle isn't in the best interest of the developers. Just another API to develop for.
If it makes it easier to port console games that were already going to be ported from AMD based console hardware to AMD desktop hardware, that would be in their interest. That seems to be how DICE was presenting it at the AMD event.
However, IF that is the case, it's terrible for nvidia and terrible for competition in the long run because Nvidia can't have a competing API that is as easy to port from as AMD's.
Edit: Then again, devs still need the DX path for backwards compatibilty so even if the Mantle path is easier, it's still extra work so never mind
