memory and overclocking question

Thread Starter
I know for a fact in my current rig my memory is the reason why I can't push my p4 3.2 prescott past 3.4ghz. I want to make sure i don't have the same problem in my next rig. I have an Asus p5w dh deluxe for the new puter, and I'm going to get an E6700. My goal is to see how high I can OC it. I am building a very nice WC system including a Stinger V6, so temperature won't be much of a factor. I had my eye on this memory...

CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Timing 3-4-3-9

Can I run this memory at 400mhz ddr and still OC like crazy.

I know if I turned my memory down in my cuurent rig I could get a higher clock, but the faster clock won't compensate for the slower memory clock. I might be all screwed up and backwards on this, as I am no overclocking expert yet. Thanks for your help.

That memory won't hold you back.

It should allow for 1:1 at 400fsb (with ease) so with the right motherboard I think you could push 450fsb probably further with CAS 4

I have XMS2 6400 @ 800mhz 4-4-4-8. I've had this memory at 920mhz 4-4-4-12.

Right on glad to hear it. Imagine my disappointment when ifound out my current memory was crap. I am salivating at the thought of getting my new rig built and getting to crank it up and see what she can do. Thanks for your help.
