That has to do with OpenGL vs DirectX

I suppose a fixed clock R9 290X would be too much to ask for.

This AMD vs Nvidia thing is good for us consumers so prices come down and new tech is released. And not all of us live around BF3/4 for instance i never played BF and i can live with it thumb.gif so this new amd card being 20% faster in BF4 its not that important for some of us.

agreed here, nothing but good for us, prices down for everyone. I probably wont touch bf4 atleast for a long time, and even if i do itll probably be for like an hour and then ill uninstall it just like i did with bf3, bring on the benchmarks and overclock scores, thats what im interested in tongue.gif

Fragmenting development on the PC to all sorts of different APIs however is not good for consumers. At least in the long run that is.

The last thing we want to see is AMD and Nvidia buying developers to use their software suites. We do not want to end up in a situation where there are no proper high end cards for games overall. No one wants to buy both AMD and NV high end cards to play all their games properly. I fear that AMD is opening the pandora's box here with mantle. If it succeeds and other similar attempts will be made for other architectures it's going to be like a wild west out there. Just anti competitive nonsense all around and only ones who suffer will be consumers.

Yeah cause nvidia getting companies to program for physx then only allowing software CPU processing if your card is not NVIDIA was not the same thing at all.

Having multiple graphic cards with completely different architecture which revolves around single API which is everything but not effective is far worse.

The situation with having multiple cards to run all game titles properly is here and now and its been here for some years.

Intel convinced people 30 years ago that x86 architecture is THE architecture which is the best and most software devs start to revolve around it. If AMD convices people that GCN is THE best gpu architecture and its API what has to change, then there will be no multiple APIs in the future...

of all of it there are only 2 major GPU maker. So at max we got are only 2 major API for each champ.

People seem to soo paranoid about having extra API cause fragmentation. Honestly I am fine with each game have 2 APIs. It has been b4, some games have directX or OpenGL. For ex. Half-life/serious Sam/Unreal 1. Any linux/Mac ported games have to run on OpenGL, so it is 2 APIs already.

2 low level API from both champ that support several OS is MUCH MUCH better than 1 lousy inefficient DirectX API that lock us out in 1 OS.

I don't think the prices will drop much on the Titan or 780's.I don't mind paying the premium anyway as it puts us in a more exclusive bracket over other enthusiast.

Also buying a card because it excells in a particular game is just silly!
