Maple 17 won't open on windows 8

Hi everyone

I'm having this annoying problem with my laptop. I need to use Maple 17, but I can't get it to open at all on my laptop.
I have the tried the following:
Install both 32 and 64 bit versions. Run both versions as admin and in various compatibility modes.
Nothing have helped. When I click the icon, nothing happens. I can't even find the process in the task manager.
I have JDK 7 installed (not the latest update, but that will be the last option I have).
I have had a similar problem with spotify once. When i would click the spotify icon i wouldn't open, but I was able to find the process in the task manager. Then after some reinstalling (I think I also ended up doing a fresh windows install) it worked. But Maple won't work (I would like to avoid a fresh windows this time)

Here is the odd part.
I installed it on my desktop (also have JDK 7, and not the latest version either), and it works with no issues.

I'm running windows 8 on both machines.

Specs of laptop:
Core I7-2630qm
8gb DDR3 ram
Intel 335 240Gb SSD
GT555m gfx from Nvidia
Windows 8 64 bit version

Specs of desktop
Core i5-2500k
16gb DDR3 ram
intel 520 180gb ssd
Samsung spinpoint F3 1TB HDD (maple is installed on this HDD)
2x GTX 670 in SLI
Windows 8 64 bit version

I have no idea why this problem exists. I have checked the health of the SSD with SSDlife, and it says health is 100%

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Hi Panzerfury,

had a similar problem on my laptop with Win 7. After I changed the JRE in the Maple directory to a different version it worked. I used a copy of the regular JRE (jre7) that I had installed on the system (renamed ../Maple17/jre to ../Maple17/jre.orig and copied jre7 to ../Maple17/jre).

Additional Info on this topic:

Managed to make original install (including jre) working by setting maxheap for Java in launch.ini of maple.

Alternatively switch to 64-bit jre.
