The same reason I don't have a high powered laser pointer. There would be that one time I'm not wearing my safety glasses and I would accidentally blind myself.

I would however like to pull a star wars kid with it. Nerf swords weren't real and didn't cut anything but that didn't stop you as a kid from pretending to slice and dice things.
I'm sure there is a sense of joking in this but I can explain why that is a bad idea and you still die.

They already have fake lightsabers. I played with one of those when I was a kid too.

There would be nothing more epic as a kid as a lightsabre that ignited the same way as those from the movies. That plastic tube did nothing for immersion.
