Need hard disk imaging software

Thread Starter
I need something to create an image of entire hard drives at the disk level, not the partition level. The image should contain the boot sector and all partitions, and ideally convert them to some kind of image file. Also it needs to be something I can boot from, like a Live CD, because I need to create images of any arbitrary disk. Some of our systems run specialty real-time operating systems that have very little supported software. The ability to image to a file over the network would also be nice, but not mandatory.

Basically we have quite a collection of systems and we're constantly changing OS's (doing hardware support tests for some specialty PCI boards) and I'd like a way for us to dump images of some common (and even uncommon) configurations onto a file server.

What should I look at? Paid is okay, this is for work and not personal use.

I've written a program for data recovery that can image a disk or partition (user selectable) to an exact (raw) image file (*.img), even on failing disks.  It would definitely accomplish "disk to image file" part for you.  You can download Disk Image Recovery here: DiskImageRecovery.zip

I have been using Active@ Boot Disk it has Active@ Disk Image integrated in it .
with other utility's, they also offer just the standalone of Active@ Disk Image, links below.
they are very reliable.
