Thus type of soft body physics is very realistic (top) why do no games include this type of car damage? Is it too CPU intensive??

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say it's really difficult to do this kind of calculation in a game setting, especially on 8 year old consoles wink.gif

Rigs of Rods uses a physics system much like this one (though not quite as high quality); it's just too taxing for most games to implement right now, I suspect.

I do this for research work at a University. At the accuracy level we use simulating vehicle impacts, it can take days to weeks to calculate a five second simulation.

That said, you could do this on a much less accurate level, which would take less time. Still, it takes a lot of work both for setting up the crash engine, getting the system to render properly, and having the results display properly.

Aside from it probably being a little too intensive for Xbox 360 and PS3 technology, it'd be really annoying to completely decimate a car like it would in real life every time you run into something, especially when you're a terrible driver like I am. You'd constantly be needing to get a new car.

That makes sense, but i figured for a modern gaming PC it would be possible especially a PC running a high end i7.

but Ive been gaming since i was young and i still haven't seen anything like that video above, its time we get at least 1 good driving simulator thumb.gif I think we do have the technology to do it more so than a few years ago with i7's floating around out there.
