I'm working on redoing an old toshiba l355-s7831 and the wireless card will need to be replaced too. Does anyone know what I can upgrade to or do I have to buy the same model?

Any micro PCI-e card should work. It most likely will already have a half height card in is so that would be the easiest option. I feel as though its not really worth the effort to do because at most you will get on your LAN up to 802.11ac which will boost your speed far beyond what anything else on your network is, but this is overclock.net so:

I put one of these in a laptop for doing site surveys

This has so many supported standards its almost sickening. It has 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and is concerning cheap. there seems to be quite a few with the same model number about the same price so I think its ok.
