G__ just refers to the revision of the graphics chipset, it goes in order when they were made, it has nothing to do the model number
since the 8800s were first in the 8th gen geforces they are called g80
they probably had g81-83 somewhere and decided not to release them, or they might release them later
whatever they come out with next will be g85 or higher, whether it is better or worse than other cards in the 8 series
its sort of like all e6x00s could be called conroes, because they are all the same chip, but they have different features enabled so there are a bunch of different models even though they are all exactly the same internally
when they revise the chip and come out with a new series (or the same series on a different process) they will have to get a new name
