Windows 7 vs Windows 8

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm having some problems with windows 7, like installing Directx..

I've tried some ways to fix that but no sucess.. I want to reinstall windows and the question is: For gaming windows 8 or windows 7? I have both windows.

Thanks
Whichever one you're already the most comfortable with. There is negligible gaming performance difference between the two.

I'm going to say that Windows 8 has been great for me. No issues at all.

For a reinstall Windows 8 would be better from the small differences like boot times and the better task manager. . you can't stand the start menu just download a program that changes it. There isn't really a reason for Windows 7 over 8.

What program? Can you tell me please?

By the way, if there is no difference between windows 7 and 8, I'll install windows 8.
Thanks guys

See now for me that's the opposite, I see people that use Windows 8 that have problems galore and a few people that are like "it's flawless"..
Mind you the people that say "It's flawless" are the standard users who use just Facebook and the people with problems are the people that actually use a computer for data processing and gaming etc, stuff that actually requires good hardware.

I'd say stick to W7 if you're used to it too, you have no real problems apart from the DX thing either yeah? I mean if it keeps happening try Windows 8 because why not, it could fix your problem.
That and it's a more proven/stable OS generally, I'm gonna get crap for saying that but it's more mature so more stable in theory and I've seen it in desktops that I've built here. The people who have W8 do commonly get problems with drivers unless using an OEM machine/OEM install or just can't use certain features or programs because they're been removed, changed or had support dropped.

W8 is nice for tablets and all and it's good that they syncronyzed the whole "Windows" thing with phones + tablets + desktop (like Apple) but for now at least W8 makes no sense (to me personally) on a desktop) when Windows 7 is more matured and stuff doesn't "Need" Windows 8 to run (yet! - It will happen peeps!)

EDIT:

Not being a W7 "Fanboy" or anything, I usually go for the newer stuff but this time it's different. Everytime I use it i feel that it's designed for a tablet and then ask myself if that's the case why am I using a keyboard + mouse sorta thing?

I'm kinda a bit drunk too, so yeah. #oktoberfest

EDIT2: I wish Windows 7 could get the task manager like OMG it's so shiny and pretty! :O :O :O :O

Classic shell is the one I remember but there is another one too. I don't actually use it because the start doesnt bother me and Windows 8.1 update is going to allow boot to desktop I believe.

I used 8 for awhile, then 8.1, then recently switched back to 7 because the custom resolution utility (for overclocking monitors) wasn't playing nice with 8.

Either is fine, 8 isn't hard to get used to if that's what you're afraid of. I'd say go with the latest and greatest unless you have to pay for an upgrade.

For what it's worth I've got copies of Windows 8 that I installed on two personal rigs (gaming & htpc). After using them both for a little over a week I went back to Windows 7. That was even after installing Start8 on both machines.

I'm not knocking Windows 8, I'm just not ready for the change until it's forced on me. I agree with almost every word and point that Matt-Matt made, so I guess I'll get slammed too smile.gif
