the difference between 80k and 150k isn't very noticeable.

IDK, I mean the ACTUAL tweet and not just a snippet of information :

#Ryse Hero Marius 85k polys? It was choice: 150k polys w LODs vs 85K + better shading + no LODs (stable). The latter wo at better quality!

It sounds like what he's saying is the hardware is capable of 150k but that they went for a healthy compromise.

There comes a point where high poly counts show no return. 85k instead of 150k means more grunt work else where.

That might just be better FPS... which would just mean PC's still rock smile.gif

So to answer your question, yes, 3x1080p is what we would have wanted...

Without being too insulting, if you expected 3x1080p like performance from the consoles, you are at fault.

Your expectations are widely, nearly comically, misinformed.

The Titan is averaging something around 35 FPS at Ultra settings at 4K resolutions - pretty nice! The Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition is well behind at 27 FPS followed by the GTX 680 cards at just under 25 FPS.
Quote:
The HD 7990 with the prototype driver is able to hit nearly 50 FPS and the GTX 690 follows that with nearly 45 FPS average through the entirety of our run.

Crysis 3 (high (not very high) w/ FXAA)
Quote:
NVIDIA's Titan GPU is able to hover right at 30 FPS and the HD 7970 falls to about 24 FPS. The GTX 680s, both in 2GB and 4GB frame buffers, measure in the 21-22 FPS level.

Skyrim Vanilla
Quote:
The GTX Titan averages nearly 70 FPS, the Radeon HD 7970 52 FPS and the GTX 680s in both 2GB and 4GB form hit 45 FPS based on our data. All of them result in fairly even frame time drops as well.

Sleeping Dogs
Quote:
The average frame rate for the Titan is nearly 35 FPS with the HD 7970 just over 30 FPS. The GTX 680s follow up with a just over 25 FPS result.

The rest of the articles are all the same. Each of those benchmarks are using GPU's that need more power than the ENTIRE console itself. Way too impracticable. Lol, you think just because a couple thousand people have SLI 780's/Titans/690's/7990's that all of a sudden 4k is ready for the mainstream.

The only game that could hit 60+fps was skyrim....but who wants to see last year's graphics for the next 7 years.

4x increase in pixels. If you want same graphics and same performance, you're gonna have to put future development in games on pause til we have cards that are 4x faster at the same price point. Crysis 4 is going to be "last year's graphics" relatively soon, if people keep pushing it so that a midrange card only has 60fps on 1920x1080, then higher res isn't coming any closer.

The jump to 1440 (+~78% iirc) is much more sane and probably stepping stone, hopefully soon it will be the "new 1080" so that we can double pixels then double them again in 4 years instead of trying to quadruple straight out.

that's what I'm saying. I was mentioning earlier how stupid it'd be to assume that consoles could do 3x1080p in Eyefinity. Not just because nobody is going to have that many TV's next to each other, but because of the level of performance, and impact it'd have on the visuals, that it'd take to get there! If that's already so hard to grasp, I don't know why people are mentioning "4k" at all! especially in a console thread doh.gif

What would be awesome though is if you could chain together three systems just like you do for SLI and then have them each output 1/3 of the full image to the corresponding screen

( I trademark this awesomeness under the phrase "Dark Phoenix Vision ! ! !" )
