Bottlenecks and upgrade requirements?

Hi,

I'm pondering over some upgrades for my current system. The current specs are:

Q6600 core 2 quad 2.66Ghz processor
P35 gigabyte motherboard
4Gb corsair ram (can't remember exact specs)
1tb seagate HDD (quite old, seems the lowest score in windows)
GTX 670 2Gb

Seems to be running most games in high settings, but feel like there needs to be some changes to match the graphics card.

What are your suggestions?

Ps I wasn't sure which section this is meant to be in!

Welcome to OCN

Which PSU do you have you dont say?

If your PSU is worth keeping i think its time for a new CPU and motherboard if you have money for that

Video card is fine no need to replace that

Oh and you need new RAM as well becasue DDR2 is dead

Budget?

I'd go for a 4670k + MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING + 8gb DDR3 ram either Ripjaws/Corsair/other + SSD (not really familiar with SSD brands so maybe others can help here)

& yeah, tell us which PSU you have.

I used to have a Q8300 + a GTX 570, at stock the Q8 would bottleneck the 570 but overclocked to 3.1, I didn't notice any redface.gif

What's your budget?

I suggest a z77 motherboard, 3570k or 3770k cpu if you can afford it and a nice 8GB ddr3 ram kit, such as the samsung 30nm green kit.

I think the PSU is a 550W corsair (if I remember correctly), budget is about £300, 350 stretching it to absolute max. I'm just wondering if OC'ing everything will boost things?

My case is an antec one with some excellent fans that really does keep it cool.

Go with a 4670K a Gigabyte Z87X-D3H and 2x4GB DDR3 Kit (if budget allows try to fit a Hyper 212 EVO/X or better ) thumb.gif

PSU is a 550W Be Quiet! (Not sure about model)

Budget is roughly £300, £350 absolute max.

Is OC'ing an option?
