my thoughts exactly

First the article title here is quite misleading. The say similar. So here is what we already knew 780 = $650 290X = $599. Amazing how some writer can be vague and make the facts seem just a bit different although both could fall under same description. When everyone saw $599 they had to have it. But when stated as similar all of a sudden they start to lean back to the 780. Where do they find these writers, In DC.

Wow, I'm just speachless. As far as posts, this is a bombshell if it turns out to be true. The lowest priced 780 i could see was near $649.00 so not far off, but more important if the performance is....

Oh nevermind we need OC benches to confirm what we want to know. With the caviat of using Intel CPU's of course so we are talking Apples to Apples. If a bencher publishes results with AMD CPU's then all hell breaks loose from the gallery saying it was not a worthwhile test. Just saying.

no. 280 is 7950. Not sure why they would just re-box the thing with GCN 1.0. That seems stupid.

Anyhow, not sure why ppl r expecting it to beat the Titan. It won't happen, not with the die being so much smaller. As I said before I would be happy if it can trade blows with 780

But is the die size they list for the Titan and 780 actually that size full use? I mean they cutoff or shutdown parts so is the die actual 5__mm. Assuming they are actually smaller then what is that size compared to the 290X.

I dunno what they count in the titan's die size. It's that or very close to it, but still quite larger than 290

With the percentage of the die cut off for the Titan/ 780, the die size is not MUCH bigger than the 290X at all. The Titan is down 2 smx clusters from the whole die, roughly what, 15%? Which means ~470mm die space is used if my giesstimate math is correct...

Because some games will use mantle and some won't, the results could be all over the place. From just under a 780 to well above a Titan, depending on the game. May not be the top bencher (or maybe it will?), but performance heirarchy will all come down to which games you play. I'm down for some BF4 and eyefinity, so put me down for one wink.gif.
