Lack of competition ^, hopefully soon to be redeemed smile.gif

It might not be enough for that tech demo nVidia released with Fermi, but it'd certainly be enough for physics to be available in every game and then to actually make a difference to gameplay as opposed to the fluff that they're mostly left to now. What really annoys me about PhysX is that we could have had physics be an integral part of gameplay for a long time now but Agiea and nVidia both screwed it up by making it proprietary and gimping the CPU side into order to sell more PPUs/GPUs respectively.

Optimization could and probably is a big factor, but you can't get away from the hardware point of view. GPUs are still much better at most parallel tasks, physx being one of them. There are many other benchmarks beside physx that render the same thing, using the processor only and then using the GPU. GPUs come out on top.

Should be a given though, less all 8 cores are being used Vishera isn't going to compete and even then clock for clock still wont compete. I'm not sure i follow the relevance of posting or saying something that should already be well known. That said my 8320 is doing fine at 4.5ghz probably is somewhat behind Ivy @ 3.4 or so. None the less still getting great results so far.

Yeah I saw multiple threads of people trashing intel, claiming Vishera is now the king. We've seen this before, except this time the fanboys had charts to back them up, charts that made absolutely no sense.

It is expensive because people prove they will buy it it at that cost.

I don't know what you think I implied. I explictly said Titan is a "Luxury" product in several occasions. Also in several occasions I had said the 780 is what NVIDIA most likely can go down to in terms of price, because after all, they don't seem to be swimming in money either, and in this economy I'm almost sure that they'd love selling it at $400 with a huge profit left at them, but there is no huge profit left at them, they have to sell very smaller dies at $400 or at least $300 and that is proven also by AMD, they wanted to to sell off 7970s fast and they can't even go beyond $300, meaning they are probably at cost, meaning 780 is definitely way above that cost since the die is bigger and it fails more often at TSMC.

It varies on the type of physics, some are very parallel but others aren't. Some are also parallel but still too complex for the GPUs to compute efficiently. Ideally, the best method is to use both the CPU and GPU much like HSA is going to.

Some games have physics, not physx, and it runs off the cpu. It doesn't effect the CPU much if at all in my experience, maybe it is not as complex, or maybe it is just optimized correctly. There is an option in starcraft 2 I think.

As for physx, I haven't really seen a game that effects the GPU. My 690 laughed at Borderlands 2 physx, at max load the physx osd reported 6% usage. Seems like something that should be more integrated into a game, and should have no need of an on or off option.
