I doubt this card will disappoint, providing it does come in at 600$. Will it be a wonderful, titan stomping card at that price? Probably not. Honestly, slightly better performance than a 780 is kinda depressing to me. Was expecting something a bit more from AMD's newest graphics lineup. Just hoping they are putting in some serious work into the drivers. Love my new 7970's and their crushing my old 460's in sli but my frames should definitely be higher than they are. Getting about 50-60fps in GTA 4 with the Ice Enhancer mod. Distance set to 60 for both, traffic at 50, and shadows off. Everything else maxed. Still playing around with RadeonPro to see what I can get, forcing the crossfire to "alternate frame rendering" helped a lot.

While I can certainly understand AMD trying to keep this information confidential from Nvidia until AMD is ready to release this card, it also indicates that this card is no where close to be released with full Mantle until sometime in 2014. There may be 290x release but with limited Mantle for bf4 by Christmas.
As to AMD worrying about people on the fence debating between the 780 and this, AMD may just lose these potential customers anyway. Hype without something real to back it up only goes so far, IMO
Nvidia has something now, and it can always drop the price before this card is released to counter. At least people know what they are buying rather than AMD's approach which is just trust us based on rumors

AMD may be banking more on the Christmas rush or Tax return rush than the current people on the fence, IMHO. Plus there are less and less people looking at these high-end cards that don't recycle old cards one way or another (move them to another PC, sell them off, etc), and may be banking a lot of current 780/Titan owners picking one up anyway to check it out. Besides, the rest are just rebrands that really have little real additional cost to AMD, so they are just using them to make the lineup complete and coincide with Nvidia's 7xx series.

Everything I've seen for Maxwell has pointed to Q2 2014. I don't know that AMD has given any release date info on Pirate Islands though.

And pirates islands? It doesn't seem like this card will have a long lifespan.

If the two cards are priced similarly, it would be silly to not go with the 780. Perhaps they're banking on this whole Mantle thing? Am I missing something?

Top end cards have very very little impact on market share, that's all happens in the low/mid price points.

TBH I disagree. Was I the only one that felt like this conference was like the microsoft xbone one where nothing that people were expecting was told? If you're going to hold a conference about your new cards, you ALWAYS talk about your flagship and say what it's all about first and foremost. If (for whatever reason) they were still not finalized, then they should have postponed the conference instead of giving us the fluff of showing us games and audio. The only worthwhile thing that came of that conference was mantle and an inkling of info on the lower to mid range cards, not at all what a product unveiling should be about by any means.
