The answer to that is "yes" You love them or you hate them. The layout of a particular trackball is also very important and idiosyncratic. I for instance hate that one because it makes my thumb ache. I however an in love with this one. I use a mouse for FPS but I use this for everything else.
there are also these which use a huge billiard sized ball. which is the favorite of a friend of mine. While I find it impossibly slow, it;s his favorite gaming device. he puts it below the keyboard, then hunches over it and manipulates it with both hands like he's consulting a crystal ball. It looks ridiculous, but I cannot argue with the results because I'm generally too dead to talk.
trackballs don't use rollers anymore. they have dots imprinted on the ball, and use a laser to track them. Actually more accurate than a laser mouse. It's got a limit on movement speed though.Edited by bombastinator - 9/29/13 at 1:53pm
