7850 - Should I BIOS flash for 1.3v?

Will I be OK?

Currently my 7850 is at 1.225v, 1200/1500 on water. 30c idle, 43c load. I have all types of copper sinks and a fan blowing across them. Also my previous 6850 ran @ 1.35v 24/7 with the same setup.

You are correct. Only the stock bios works correctly. I made another thread about it. SADFACE. Oh well 1200/1500 is more than enough. No moar cheap GPU's for meeee.

Voltage kills GPUs. If it runs at a high speed, great. Don't blow it up trying to get it there.

Sure does but I would hope that my cooling is up to the task. I have overvolted my GPU's for a long time and haven't had an issue (always on water and added VRM/RAM sinks as well as a side fan). My last GPU was an XFX 6850 which ended up being non reference, and I was unable to increase voltage AT ALL without adding a variable resistor and hard modding. Ran that card at 1.35v and it still works great after ripping off the mod and running it at stock on my g/f's rig.

You think I would have learned not to buy the cheapest card available (my thought is always that the stock cooler is coming right off), since this one is locked up to 1.225. But at these clocks I'm happy so I'm leaving it at that. I did manage to unlock the power limit to +50% but that started causing some strange throttling issues unless I alt-tabbed out of a game and applied the clocks again, so I lowered to +30% and all is well.

I wonder if the VRM's and what not on better brands/more expensive cards are beefier as well?

Kind of an old post I guess, but I've successfully flashed (and ran for months) @ 1.3v. Actually, I run 1.3v and I've flashed the BIOS to allow 40% Power control.

Just use the HD7850-DC2T-2GD5 BIOS and you should be good. Of course there is always a risk with flashing, so take that into consideration before hand.
