Upgrading to 8.1

Thread Starter
Can I upgrade my windows 7 machine to 8.1 without having to re-install? Just a side note I used audit mode to put my user files and appdata on a different drive. I'm having issues with my windows 7 install, mainly it thinks that I'm out of memory and will alt tab me out of games and try to disable aero. I have 16GB of ram and when I'm gaming the only thing running is chrome, some minor background processes and the game so I'm nowhere near to max usage.

The problem with a fresh install is that I have ~600GB of programs installed and it would be a major inconvenience to have to install everything again. I've never used windows upgrade option before so I don't know if or even how it works.

Kinda... It would be quicker just to partition and only have the os on one and then ALL YOUR PROGRAMS on another... or even better, another HDD all together...

I have 6 drives, 3 are full and the other 3 are about 50% capacity. The OS and programs I want to go fast go on the SSD and everything else goes on other drives, its definitely not simple and there's no easy way to set it up.

Easily, just upgrade to win 8 first and then update to Win 8.1 through the Microsoft store.
