You would hardly notice a difference between 8 and 16. You would only notice if you have a lot of programs open at the same time and then you switch to one that wasnt active for a long time (so it was paged to the hard drive). On 16 gb you would need to have twice as much programs open before you would notice it taking longer to switch back to a program that wasnt active in a long time.

For OCing more ram is worse if you get 4x4 because more sticks is less stable.

Question, which might help him out. Between full and oem which would be best if said motherboard fails on him and he has to replace it. I had two fail on me with then a month and a year.

generally, if you replace it with the same model of board or a very similar board then it will still activate fine with OEM. It is not meant to allow you to upgrade just to upgrade though. More meant to come into effect if you have a board fail that is no longer under warranty or able to be purchase. like if you had a p7p55 workstation and it fails, you could likely relace it with any other p7p55and still activate, assiming you phoned m$ to activate

So you can't even just call it in if you change boards? My win 7 went through 3 different brands with no problem. Odd

I am not talking about what you can get away with. If you violate the licence by running on multiple boards, then m$ has the right to charge you for another key, and there is nothing you can do about it as you agree to the license key when you activate.

That is of coarse not accounting of you have a full edition instead of OEM. If you have a full edition, you can use the key on one system at a time on as many systems as you wish, up to the point that microsoft shuts down activation services(for example it is getting hard to activate XP over the network now and 2k pro is flat impossible to activate)

One good reason to go with the ULTIMATE version of W& is the ability to access media off any other windows pc on your network.

For example I can access photos off my desktop (W7 home premium) from my laptop which has the ultimate version.

You can do this from ultimate down to home premium but not the other way around, as far as I know. Personally it doesn't really matter as my non main machines only have 120gb SSDs.

I would say unless you have multiple machines home premuim 64bit is plenty.
