Fan Controller Issue/Question

So I'm using a Bitfenix Recon fan controller, and I'm using three of the channels:
Channel 1: CPU fans
2x Corsair SP120 High Performance fans

Channel 2: Intake fans
2x Corsair AF140 Quiet fans
1 Stock Fractal Design 140mm fan

Channel 3: Exhaust fans
3x Corsair AF140 Quiet fans

When I first put this all together, smoke came out of the Bitfenix controller and nothing was working. Thought it was because the power connector was partially disconnected because when I reconnected it, it started running and has been running okay ever since. However now it doesn't even read the Channel 1 fans (they just run max speed all the time), and all the channels have always fluctuated a lot with rpms.

Is there too many fans on each channel? I thought that this controller could handle it but maybe not.. Anyways, it's given me problems ever since I've installed it and I'm thinking of just getting a knob controller. Does anyone have suggestions for a fan controller that can deliver enough power for my fan setup? Something that has a good reputation and reliable, because this was a pain to put together with all the cabling...

These look promising:

Also my case has a door (Fractal Design R4), does anyone know if you can't use controllers with knobs because of this?

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Okay I will take a shot biggrin.gif

That controller should have handled those fans since the controller claims it will handle 10W per channel and even with 3 fans they shouldn't pull anywhere close to 10w but the fact that smoke came out lets me believe there was a manufacturing defect which is why its acting weird.

Lamptron makes great controllers and both those controllers handle more watts than the Bifenix so barring a manufacturing defect they should both work just fine. They should also both fit just fine into the Define R4, I was using a NZXT Mix2 and the sliders didn't touch the foam of the R4, some controllers will but all they do is leave depressions in the foam like HERE post 8165. Plus the R4 has a few mounting holes so you have a little movement in or out in the bay.

I didn't even think about mounting the controller deeper into the 5.25" bay as an option. Shweet thanks for the reply

You're welcome.

Keep in mind though, really depends on were the mounting holes are on the controller, also its only a few mm. But you could always drill a few extra holes if you need to.

Yea I see what you mean. I'm looking at the Lamptron FC5 V2 and FC6 and they only have one hole on each side that looks like it would line up with the very last mounting hole in either of the expansion bays in my R4..
