Apparently whatever is causing the lag is something they would have to recode the engine to fix. They just added on to the engine with Arma 3, so all the problems from Arma II are still there... and can not be changed with patches.

The game is never going to get much better performance, we can only hope that Arma 4 will be a major engine overhaul.

Its heavily single threaded. Its most likely bottlenecking at your first CPU core which probably sits at 99%, while the rest of our cores are around 30% use. Unless its the server you are on.

Altis is defiantly better but yea they said Arma 3 was going to be built from the ground up and around optimization. I feel as if they made a 64bit exe with some more optimizations a huge improvement would show.

Singleplayer with the showcases and that 1 core doesn't even reach 80%.

Correct. In MP, FPS is relative to how well the server is running, and what scripts are running on the server. My group's server averages 30-45 FPS on a good day.
