It was nearly vehemently argued what kind of negative effect Mantle would have on PC gaming. Now we see that Nvapi was already used in BF3. Yet most of us didn't know it until now. I think at this point, how they've developed nvapi is not our problem. It's out there, it's been used in game(s) and, imo debunks those negative claims against mantle. Furthermore, since it's coincides with the nextgen console it's a double win.

I recall a time when AMD helped push DX11 out there to developers. There was a lot of negativity claiming that if DX10 didn't take off neither will DX11. Yet AMD helped push one or 2 games back then. I think one of them was Dirt 2. Anyway, we can see how well DX11 over took DX10 today. Something to think about...thumb.gif

So your options should be DirectX (for older AMD cards) or DirectX+NVAPI (for Nvidia) or Mantle (for Hawaii cards). But NVAPI is not equivalent to Mantle, at least not the way it is being used now.

Whether or not nvapi is equivalent Mantle is not our problem nor the focus. What is the focus is that they've been using their own api to leverage performance. AMD is doing the same thing. Now the playing field is leveled. If AMD found a way to improves performance to PC gamers that allows better transition from nextgen games to PC games then good for them. It just means that AMD's competitor isn't in the position to do the same.

May be Guru3d hit the record button accidentally in BF3 at 1600p with 7790, this is why it looked so slower. tongue.gif

Here is from bit-tech.

Well Review date and Launch date of 7790 is same. Hence it was probably running with Generic driver by card vendor. AMD had not released driver for 7790 at that time and with a beta driver of that time it was very buggy with 7790. While 650ti is from Oct-2012, Geforce driver date Feb-2013.

And 650ti was with NVAPI tongue.gif

650ti is 9% slower in minimum and 35% slower in average tongue.gif
That is the reg 650 if I read it correctly the 650ti is above the 7790s although equal to below the 7790.

I don't notice any lag in BF3 as my fps is usually always above 60fps so I use adaptive Vsync. A Gtx 650Ti on a resolution of 1366x768 tongue.gif

Likely. According to EA, they've rewritten Frostbite to scale up to 8 cores, so Zambezi, Vishera, and i7s should all see some benefit.

I hope Nvidia pushes NVAPI a little further like AMD did with Mantle. It'd be amazing if we could get games written in Mantle and the Nvidia equivalent and then only AMD and Nvidia would be responsible for adding features to the API.

I'm dreaming of a world where AMD comes out with with a feature like tessellation and puts it in their drivers. Now, instead of needing a DirectX version which supports it which is only in certain versions of Windows, it's in the drivers. I don't think some of you realize how big of a deal this is.

It means AMD (and maybe Nvidia) would be responsible for maintaining things, so that they could add Mantle support to their drivers on ANY OS.

Imagine small 14in laptop with AMD APU running SteamOS and playing Mantle games on it. If ARM even becomes a big enough thing, we could see NVIDIA CPU + NVIDIA GPU mobile gaming rigs as well.

It's win everywhere. It'd also give us some cheaper laptops and stuff because you wouldn't be paying for Windows. Nothing like buying a Windows laptop only to wipe it off and install Linux.
