Setting up a simple DDNS is becoming a practice in frustration. Halp!

So I am in an position where I am not at home most of the time for months at a time now, and I am trying to set up a DDNS to just do a simple wake on lan procedure to my pc. I have nothing fancy at my current location, no server or anything anymore (tore it all down when I moved a while back - found I don't have the time to set it up right now).

I have a WWRT router and with that I just use the DDNS settings in there for, what I thought, would be a simple procedure. My problem lies in that I keep errors that basically don't allow my hostname to be visible on the web.

I have an account with dynamicDNS and just plug my username and info in to the respective fields, and then forwarded any UDP ports needed to my MAC on my main pc. Thought I was all set, I tested it out and was able to turn my pc on from my phone via the cellular network. The next day, nothing - and every day since, nothing. I just keep getting the same errors on the log. If anyone has a suggestion I'd love to get this resolved before I need to head out for work again.

Thanks for anyone who takes the time to look this over!

Have you verified that wake on LAN is configured correctly in Device Manager on your computer?  It is expected for any connection to fail since your computer is off.  However, the UDP magic packet (if it reaches your computer) should cause the computer to turn on, even though no connection can be established since the OS isn't booted yet.  Do you know what UDP port the wake signal is coming in on?  Because in your modem/router's NAT setup, as I understand, that UDP port will need redirected to your computer's (hopefully static) IP address for wake on LAN to work.

When I mention a static IP for your computer, I hope you know that with a router, there are at least two networks: The Internet network, which has your visible/public/dynamic IP address, and then the local LAN that your computer is connected to on the other side of the router.  Your computer's IP address on that local LAN should probably be fixed (as in "set", "unmoving"), so that the NAT has a consistent IP address to route the UDP wake signal to.

Just for background, I use wake on LAN on a private LAN here, and I wrote a program that sends the UDP magic packet, but I've never tried wake on LAN over the Internet. wink.gif

Yup, I can always wake on lan from inside my network without a problem. I have the UDP ports forwarded to my pc on it's static internal IP. Everything works within my network - and if I restart my router I can wake the PC up from outside the network for a relatively short amount of time. I then just get the error that I posted above and I can't seem to get around it. I've turned off the firewall completely, I've used another dynamic dns host and tried their service and hostname. Still same result.

I can't for the life of me figure out why this is failing.
