Monolith. A Striker36 Case Mod Work Log.[now with more Acrylic curves!] - Page 2

PROGRESS! kinda....tongue.gif
at the very least some actual content I guess

As I said before I really don't want to have to run to the airport every time I want to work on the case so I went through the upper part of my room where I just dumped all the crap I didn't have room or time for and threw out an ENTIRE TRUCK LOAD of stuff. Seriously. The bed of my ranger is filled to the rails all the way back with boxes and trash bags. but I was too late to get to the dump so I never got a chance to buy the plywood I'm going to use for the work bench.... Didn't get as much up there done as I wanted to but the rest of my apartment is clean now =D

well here we are in the soon to be shop.

I grabbed the legs from an old steel bench that were just laying there in one of the hangers the company I work for owns to use for my new bench. they are a bit dirty but that's no big deal. I also need to make some stand offs for that peg board so I can hang it on the wall behind where I was standing and still be able to add and remove pegs.

the other way

any one remember that old folding table? It probably wont be there much longer. that big open space next to the Winchester cartridge box is where the peg board will hang. i even have the single most important part of ANY work space up there. THE BEER FRIDGE!.

before any of you ask this is what will hang on the peg board
[img]maybe not the hawks but the rest will. I really have no other place for them at the moment any way so why not make space in the work space? BRILLIANT! I got distracted when I was moving the case out of my roommates office type thing and ended up taking the front off and the expansion card brace out to see what was behind it
its a really simple task actually. I think it was a total of six screws. the whole process took less than 2 minuets.

and opened the fan holes in the top.

I think I might need a third..... what do you think? devil.gif

Is there room inside?

looks like it.... but even if there isn't when has that ever stopped me? I was one of the first (at least in the club) to put a true WC loop in a Scout with a double radiator haha.

any way. after our little tour of my future work space what do you guys think? I think it will work out quite nicely. It might even give me an excuse to buy a few new tools!

as always. comments and suggestions are welcomed even if its just you calling me a moron for thinking about cutting into such a beautiful case

-Striker

P.S. Pluto needs to go.... how did I not see it hanging there ALL DAY!?!

OR I could just do this and have all the radiator I should need.

still going to need to do quite a bit of work to get them both to fit though which is TOTALLY OK with me

Completely off topic but, a Mosin Nagant with a bayonet and a scope mount... Nice!! Does it have matching serial numbers?

Only sort of off topic haha. Yes the numbers match and it has proof marks from the Moscow Arsenal and armory and is dated 1939. Its not a hex receiver but it it shoots strait and always goes bang. For 120 bucks (another 50 for the optic mount) I really can't argue with it

so I finished what I needed to at work today in record time just so I had time to get to Home Depot and grab some MDF to build my work table bench thing.

I think I have something mixed up here....

this looks a bit better. HUGE but better.

I had planed for the table to be that big as its the same size as a couple of the work tables we have at work and its just about the ideal size for the projects I need them for there so why not here? that being said. its surprising how much space it takes up haha

even got the other side almost together.

still need to organize it a little bit BUT the lights hanging from the ceiling don't work so I only had the day lite to work with

so THIS!

metal shavings and broken rivets can only mean one thing.......

A LIST! biggrin.gif

(sorry that picture sucks. I didn't really intend to take it but some how it made it into the log)
more seriously though

6 rivets and 10 screws later the fan bracket in the front and the HDD cage are out and my first and, so far, only complaint about it shows up as they seem to have had the whole thing assembled before paint. thats usually not a bid deal to me as it makes EVERYTHING easier but given the attention to detail everywhere it seems like a silly corner to cut even if only a small fraction of the people that ever buy one of these will ever see it.

4 more screws later the top is off

I decided to pull all the brushed parts off regardless of weather or not I needed to simply to minimize the risk of scratching or otherwise damaging them during the build

i really like how they did the power and reset buttons on this case. the buttons on top are just a spring loaded peg that pokes the micro switch that is attached to the frame. it seems really rugged so far.

If you couldn't guess from my posts this morning I also ordered a pair of radiators this morning. when they get here it should allow me to make at least a little bit of progress until i decide what other components are going to get crammed into the rig.

short term goals for the project are to get more light up in the loft so i can work after dark and actually SEE what Im doing and get some power and get cleaned up a little better to make for an easy work space. after that we will have to see what comes when it happens.

thanks for stopping by everyone. Questions and comments are welcomed as always
