PS4 or PS3.5 your thoughts

Thread Starter
I'll post mines to get this started.

1) Graphics. PS3 had a few really good looking games made by some really talented developers. I am hoping that we will see some serious improvements here. Not so much with the top line of developers but in general I'm hoping that the cost and time required to designed nice games is greatly decreased for the PS4. Also, I've played through a few high graphic games on the ps3 only to find areas in the game where the graphics just isn't as good as it is very noticeable because of how good it was in other parts of the game. It reminded me eating a good meal only to find parts of it that were still cold.

2) Interaction. Interacting with the environment is something I've always found important. I loved the locations of Shenmue with people who carried on a daily life within the game. It gave me a greater sense of immersion. I'm hoping for more of this with the ps4, a lot more. And why not? The system should have the ram and cpu required to make this stuff happen. Maybe I'm alone on this but I would love more depths and choices in my games. Not just story choices but choices on direction. Think uncharted without a single path of climbing or exit through some of the games many mazes with single correct routes.

3) Loading. This is a huge one for me as I don't have the time for games as I use to. Here is what happens when I sit down to play my PS3 for 30 minutes. I turn on the PS3, wait for it load. Shift through the interface, click on my game, wait for it load. Start the game, wait for it to load. I've now waited 3 times to play my games. I don't play my ps3 very often because of all of this waiting. If the PS4 would have close to no loading times it would be a real win in my book.

4) Development. PS3 cost too much to design for. I want a larger variety of games. The number 1 reason as to why I'm a pc gamer is because I felt that with the xbox and the ps3 the innovation slowed to a crawl. On the PC I could pick up a large variety of different type of games and that is what I enjoy doing. A few years back I was burned out on FPS and platform games and I still don't find myself enjoying them as much as I use to.

5) Move. I know this isn't a big hit with gamers. But if your going to market something I believe you have to stand behind it and support it. The PS3 move was poorly supported. Not bundling the move with the ps4 is going to make it hard for people to want to pick it up. I would love for Sony to really innovate here with some nice in house games that support their move controllers to the fullest. Think fitness, boxing, sports in general, FPS(killzone was amazing), thrillers(clock tower with a move like controllers?) and we might have a winner here if done correctly.

I know the above list is huge but I don't feel it is unreasonable for a system that is suppose to have a shelf life of 10 years. For me, if they managed to pull off everything I listed above I'd consider the PS4 to be the greatest system ever made. The three things we already know we are getting is easier to design graphics, cheaper development cost and faster loading times with ram set aside just for that purpose. Gaming consoles have one large plus going on for them with everyone playing on the same hardware so I'm expecting some amazing things out of this next console war.

Well said. I just can't wait to see what Naughty Dog can do with the PS4.

Same! They did an amazing job with the Uncharted series & The Last Of Us! Naughty Dog are the best game developers for the PS3 IMO & i know for sure that they will even create much better titles for the PS4.

Killzone: SF, Resogun and Infamous: SS speaks for themselves, they're (imo) some the best looking games even compared to what's coming on PC

Depends on the game I would think? Killzone has this to a degree, what I got from the dev explanation was you could do some precursors to the main mission which would lower the enemy count when you went after the main objective. Infamous always had this the crowds did their thing and reacted to you based on how you treat the public, over time they went from initial fear to gratitude and then praise (if you chose the good path).

PS4 is looking to nulify/reduce this... TLOU was an experiment for this, the game is playable while being downloaded and once loaded it doesn't need loading again for level switching or going through doors. PS4 goes further, you can pause the game and put the system to sleep/go to watch a movie/surf the web and it will be in the same place when you're ready to return to the game.

Again PS4 is looking to get back to PS2 variety, there is a number of Indy titles being prepared for launch and onwards, dev time is said to be the best of all current consoles and 'time to triangle' is similar to the PS1 (or was it PS2?).

Move is being integrated at the OS level and interacts with the controller, voice commands etc. I would love to see games utilize it more than it was for PS3 but It has to be done in a meaningful manner. (I plan to get one from what I've seen). Oh btw the controller has the move functionality, you just need the camera to enable it.

I like the consoles just for the social side. They are fun and easy going and you pick them up and play and they just work. PC is always about patches and errors and sometimes people arent to social on it. Maybe its the games I play and the time of day I play. I will buy the PS4 just because I want to interact with a few of my friends online and I think it will integrate well with my new 4K sony tv when I get it sometime this week.
