3DS XL question for any 3DS XL owners

I recently picked up a Limited Edition X & Y Red 3DS XL and was looking for something to protect the nice other shell and upon reading reviews i had seen people saying crystal cases can scratch the paint which would have been my go to for keeping the outside of my 3DS XL safe but sadly that option is out so i searched a little and came across these

http://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-MilitaryShield-Nintendo-Protector-Replacements/dp/B0098QJGJI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

and was wondering if anyone had experience with that skin or something like it ( Wet Install screen protectors and skins) and is there any real concern of damage when doing so?

also a note id only be using it for the outside body of the 3DS XL as i already have a pair of Hori screen protectors installed

Owner of 3 of them here. On all of my systems till my newest, I had a Skinomi clear skin (essentially the same as what you linked to) and I enjoyed the protection, but disliked the rubbery feel so I skipped it on my AC XL

I also have felt the X and Y 3DS and since it's coated differently it feels more rubbery almost. You'll see no difference in comfort/ feel with a wet application protector and I'd highly recommend it for a 3ds like yours.

Just keep these on your mind if you buy a wet application protector:

1. Wet applications require spraying the device with a water and soap mixture. This can sometimes prove fatal if applied incorrectly and if the wait time is ignored.
2. You will NEED a hair dryer for the edges, the 3ds xl has wonderful curves and should be applied correctly!
3. Not all skins are created equal, look at their warranty page.

thanks for the input

the wet install is what im worried about the most id only use are the ones for the top and bottom outer shell as i just earlier today installed my Hori screen protectors fairly decently (top screen perfectly and one tiny spec of dust on the bottom screen ) but do you think id need it?

whole reason i was thinking about it is im worried about wearing out the outer shell of the 3DS XL from a lot of play as i try to be as gentle as i can with my handheld and after play will wipe it down with a micro fiber cloth till there are no finger prints left

As long as you're careful applying the inside skin you'll be fine. Just don't spray directly into the mic area and the speakers tongue.gif. I'm just giving you the heads up that there is a remote chance of damaging your device.

Also, if that spec of dust is bothering you... you can always use tape to lift the protector without damaging it and place some tape over the spot with dust. When you remove the tape the dust should go along with it.

Lastly, when applying the protector use an even coat of spray and don't add any extra soap to it. If you apply it correctly it should come out very clear and won't ruin the look of your XL.

By following these tips you should be able to keep your 3DS sexy and new looking thumb.gif! I was able to sell my black 3DS for near purchase price by keeping it new looking and my pikachu XL was able to be sold for $350 for a 150 profit.

honestly the spec of dust doesn't bother me enough to mess with it as when the screen is on it isn't visible and it is near the edge of the middle left hand side of the touch screen and with my luck if i messed with it id end up with bubbles more towards the middle which would bother me so ill leave well enough alone and live with the spec smile.gif

and thanks again for all the tips

I got a crystal shell for my wifes Pikachu 3DS XL and I don't notice any kind of wear on it even tho she plays it constantly. The one I got was like 3 bucks shipped on ebay.

Never trusted those hard shells. Read a lot of issues with scratching on points of grip.

Would be a good addition if you already have a skin protecting it.

I don't use any protection on the screen or casing. I only use the club nintendo pouch when I put it in my bag.
