anyways, my friend's mobo has died (his power went out and we assume his mobo got short circuited) so he is looking to buy a new mobo, and im gonna sell my current one and get a new one. He doesn't oc or anything like that so it's fine.

im looking around $100~ and the ASRock 970 Extreme3 has caught my eye, it's on sale now too http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_1207_1205_335&item_id=042746

im looking to overclock my current hardware, and later on will probably upgrade to am3+ cpu.

i want to have usb 3.0, sata 3 for my ssd and 2 spots for upgradability to 2 graphics card for future if i ever need it

this a good board for my needs? im welcomed to any suggestions

im buying tomorrow

thanks guys

whats the vrm on it 8 + 2?

i know the gigabyte i have now has that 8 + 2

what about the asrok i listed?
That AsRock is a decent mobo, but not good if you ever want to go with FX chips. The AsRock will handle that Phenom II x6 CPU just fine. I have run an unlock 960T on one for awhile and it handle it at 4.0ghz just fine.

This ^ . If you plan on getting an FX chip, especially if it is a 6 or an 8 core, you shouldn't get anything less than a 990FX chipset board. With good quality VRMs and some sort of cooling on them.

If you don't have to upgrade yet, as in nothing wrong with your rig right now. I would wait alittle bit and see how Kaveri is, it has SR cores, and see if they will even release another AM3+ chip.

interesting thank you guys

i got the asrock cuz of the sale going on and i plan to give this computer to my sister in a few months, hopefully i can work with this mobo

i guess when it's time to upgrade i will get another computer all together

also when you guys say that it doesn't run the 6 or 8 core fx cpus, are you talking about stock clocks or overclocked?

The AsRock 970 Extreme3 can handle 6 or 8 core FX cpu at stock speed and a little ocing too. I own 3 AsRock 970 Extreme3 running with 2 6300 (3.5ghz (stock speed) and 1 6100 (3.5ghz) and being cooled with H60 with stock fans.

Using an NH-D14 with 2 AP-15. I got the following.
6300 starts to throttling around 4.5ghz.
8320 starts to throttling around 4.3ghz.
