Sapphire 7850 2GB OC, wont pass 1080 Mhz Core Mem?

Hi all..

I've read all manner of forums and figures, on how this model of card can attain a nice OC of around 1200 Core clock.... not bad from 920Mhz.

I have tried CCC, Trixx, MSI Afterburner, Furmark, GPUTool, 3D Mark11 etc etc... yet I'm getting stonewalled and BSODs any time I push it past 1080 Mhz on the core alone. I've pushed the power slider all way up, I've pushed the VDDC all the way up to 1.125 - I just cant get past this figure of 1080 Mhz.

Ive had a multimeter on the +12 volt rails of the PSU making sure I'm not dropping voltage while attempting the OC... voltage is stable... I never get artifacts, just either it works, or it doesn't, and even so, when Im convinced its stable, I'll have a lockup mid-game - not nice when playing online! otherwise, I'm forced to lower the clock back to near the starting point clock speed...

Is there any suggestions as to why I cant get past or even near 1100 Mhz, when others can exceed this with the same card...?

When I game, I usually run on 3x1 monitor setup, ~ 4452 x 900

With thanks...

Some cards just dont clock as well. 1080 is not all bad. Got to ask though...triple monitor on a 7850?! what games exactly do you play?

My main game for this setup is World of Tanks...

it may be just me, but I do like the extra peripheral views the 2 other monitors provide.

Is it perhaps because I'm pushing 3 monitors that it just wont give me more? Just a few more FPS and I'd be happy... When things are really busy, I'm dropping to about 35 FPS, but sits around 45-50.

Strangely, I can set an OC, and run it on say, Furmark for 15 minutes no issues, then jump into WoT game, and bam - lockup...

perhaps i'll have to spend some time (though of no gain really) and see if the thing will OC on one monitor OK.. though I need the speed on 3 monitors...

Pity I was on such a constrained budget when I bought the card..

No worries, I have a 7850 1Gb that has served me well in my system as we speak, now that I have upgraded to 1080p it is starting to show its weakness, but it has been a trooper for $120. I run mine at 1050/1300, so you actually have a better clocking card then I, if you can use 1080 without crashes or artifacts.

you have a sapphire card. download Trix overclocking software. most cards will do 1000/1300 without touching voltage. if you still need more... 1.25 should be max voltage, and the core/memory speeds will be completely dependent on your individual gpu.

Nope with those i am fine i think....So a possible take down of my card is because of the volts or of the heat?

Well - I managed a safe benchmark using Heaven - using 3 screens mind you.. clock of 1122 Mhz, at MSI max Core voltage of 1.225v, and power limit ramped up... as to what World of Tanks will do when it comes across that clock speed, im yet to find out..

I managed to use a thread that gave an 'unlocked' Core voltage slider on MSI Afterburner - well i gained an extra 0.1 volt, though perhaps thats what I needed....

Im not sure whether I can post a thread from another forum?
But the result worked for me in any case - originally I did not have the ability to move the Core Voltage slider, was I was having to use Trixx, and CCC and MSI all together - now I run CCC ( for the three screen config) and MSI Afterburner...

We'll see the results when I play World of Tanks next...

thread I came across is here....
