HELP! Can't enter BIOS with keyboard (USB or PS/2)?!!

This PC wasn't built by me I've had it a month and have just discovered I can't enter the BIOS as it seems my keyboard (PS/2) is not active until the Windows user login screen appears.

The mobo is an MSI 990FXA-GD80

I've read that internal memory card readers can cause such a problem but I don't have one of those. I've also tried unplugging all USB devices except keyboard and mouse and I've also tried a USB keyboard in each of the mobo's ports.

So what am I left with, CMOS reset? I've read that a CMOS reset could help if it were a USB keyboard having trouble but again mines PS/2.

IF I did do a CMOS reset what would I have to do when the PC boots up? Having not done this before or built a PC before I'm unsure of what needs to be done. Also i'm worried that Iif I reset the CMOS i'll be stuck in BIOS with no keyboard!

Anyone?

Resetting CMOS should confirm bios is set to allow keyboard function if by chance it was set to something different before.
It returns all to factory default and should not be a problem.

Have managed to enter BIOS via some software from Windows but theres no keyboard settings in there anywhere? Also I thought the BIOS should always allow a PS/2 keyboard to work as default, I thought you only have to mess with settings if having trouble with a USB keyboard? What settings am I looking for in BIOS?

USB Legacy support perhaps? Make sure thats enabled. Wont hurt anything if it is.

Resetting the BIOS is probably your best bet.

After resetting the BIOS, you may have to set the boot sequence again.

You may or may not have to change the drive mode - AHCI or SATA. If your OS crashes on boot, switch to the oposite of whatever is showing in BIOS.

USB legacy support is already enabled :-) So how do I reset the BIOS? Also, I'm fine setting the boot sequence and drive mode but anything beyond that and I'm in uncharted territory so am I likely to need to do anything else? As the keyboard currently won'tet me enter the BIOS am I likely to have difficulty setting the BIOS after a reset? I don't want to be in a position where I have to change settings in order to get it to boot but can't because the keyboard won't work!

Well if you cant get in with a keyboard (PS/2 or USB) then you're left with resetting the BIOS. There are 2 ways to do this.

1. There is a 3 pin jumper near the bottom right of the motherboard. You move the jumper from pins 1&2 to pins 2&3, then turn your computer on. Let it POST, then you can turn it off and return the jumper back to pin's 1&2. Your BIOS should now be reset. (the pins may already be on 2&3, in which case that is the default position. Just move them to 1&2 for the reset.)

I think this is it.

2. If that doesnt work, you can try removing the battery from the motherboard, unplugging the computer from the wall and holding the power button in for about 20 seconds. I would also wait about 10 minutes before putting the battery back in and plugging back in the power. This should definitely reset the BIOS.

The boot sequence and the drive mode are really the only two things that will get reset that could prevent you from booting properly after a BIOS reset. Thats all I can think of atm though.
