7970 Crossfire and PSU consideration

I have the MSI Lightning 7970 and am considering second Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum.

Couple of considerations - One will my PSU Corsair AX850 handle the two OC'd cards and overclocked i7?

Also will it and the lightning fit on my mobo?

AX850 will handle the cards with reasonable overclocks and voltage, probably 1.25v max. Because you have a 2500k, that'll help you as that cpu is very power efficient.

Looks like you can have the Matrix in the top pci-E slot and Lightning in the second red pci-E slot.

Well the lightning has a bit sticking out at the back of it and so putting the asus on top most slot may not allow the lightning the space it needs considering the blue bit sticking out.

So was thinking Lightning in top most slot and Matrix in the second slot.

Also what about an i7 with the 2 cards, pushing the PSU now?

Don't know how the Asus card will fit in the bottom slot. You could remove the blue MSI cap from the top of the 7970 to make things fit.

A 2600k, 2700k or IVY will not make too much of a difference power consumption wise. You'll still be ok.

Not bottom most slot but the second red one.

That should be fine it seems.
