Trouble setting up RAID 0 please help!

Thread Starter
OK heres the problem,

I want to set up RAID 0 on 2 SATA 200GB Seagate Barracudas. I enable NVRAID in the BIOS, and set the SATA Ports 1 and 2 RAID enabled (the ports my hds are plugged into).

After doing this in the BIOS, I use the NVIDIA RAID utility to create a RAID 0 array. I save it, so I have a RAID 0 configuration, effectively creating a drive just under 400GB.

The problem is when I try to install windows. The windows setup loads, and after prompting me that I have (apparently) no hds to install windows (as expected), I press S to get it to load the NVRAID drivers from my floppy disk. It loads the drivers, and I go on to selecting the partition to install windows on, which registers at just under 400GB, perfect. So Windows can see the drives acting in RAID 0.

When I go to formatting it with NTFS, windows tries doing it, nothing happens for a few seconds, then comes up with an error saying it cannot format the disk, or the disk is damaged. The disks are brand new so they can't be damaged...

What's going on here? WHat am I doing wrong? Am I missing something? My suspicions are that the drivers aren't working. I made them using the motherboard utility CD. Please help, cheers

try this..

go into the Array Manager, right after bios.. F10..

blow away the array.. there should be an option to clear disk data, do this to both.

Then recreate the raid. Use a 64K stripe when you make the raid.

When you load windows setup.. and it lets you create the partition you wish to use, select the defaults it offers, should be the full amount.

Then format, IF you get the option, dont do a quick format, since a quick only wipes the FAT Table.. you want a full format. Some drives take rapid formats better than others.
