Hi. I was thinking about getting another sapphire 7850 (the one in my sig rig) as next gen games are coming up soon and I don't think my card is up to delivering good quality along with good FPS. Since I got my new mobo (Sabertooth 990fx) I can do crossfire over my old mobo, which was a mATX and my card has a crossfire bridge. So, is it worth it? Or is it just a lot of hassle for not much performance boost? Also, will my PSU 500w) be able to supply the power requirements for dual gpus? Any advice is helpful (except for '8Uy @ n3w gpu' because I can't afford it. There is a reason I am considering crossfire, because it is more that 1/2 price).

9.5KW could handle just about anything. Oh, wait, you made a typo... 950W could probably handle quad-fire 7850s if that were allowed. 650W is enough for dual 7850s with room for overclocking. But your PSU sucks. Get a 650W Rosewill HIVE or Capstone since I think they're still on sale on Newegg.

First thing you should want is a better power supply, even if you don't go crossfire.

Ok. Just out of curiosity, why? My PSU seems to be fine with what i'm running at the moment. The maximum wattage I must be running is probably around 300 watts.

More Watts != good. Some PSUs have crappy components that don't deliver "clean" power. They can damage things such as the motherboard over time or just burst into flames. As I said earlier, the Rosewill HIVE or Capstone 650W is sufficient for your usage. They are quality PSUs. Check the recommended PSU list in the PSU forum here (under other components). My next purchase for my desktop will be a good PSU due to its importance. It won't make a build, but it will break one.

I know, it sucks that you upgrade the boring components first, but 7850 prices have plummeted, will continue to do so, but the cheapest ones are $130 for 2GB and 860MHz. They were under $120 just last week so now would be a bad time to buy. Also frying your rig will be a lot more than the $70 you pay for a good PSU.

OP can you confirm if the +12v rail on the CX500 psu has 38A . check the label on the psu. if it does then you can manage with the psu. otherwise you might want a better psu . go for rosewill capstone 550 or seasonic G550

http://www.amazon.com/SeaSonic-550-Watt-CrossFire-Certified-SSR-550RM/dp/B00918MEZG

also the better option is to sell the HD 7850 and get a HD 7950. around 50- 60% faster at the same clocks. on average overclocks to 1100 - 1150 mhz with voltage tweaking.

Farcry 3 1920 x 1080 Ultra 2x MSAA

HD 7950(1150 mhz) - 54.6
HD 7850(1100 Mhz) - 35.8

Tombraider 1920 x 1080 Highest settings TressFX FXAA

HD 7950(1150 mhz) - 68.4
HD 7850(1100 Mhz) - 41.4

here are a few good options. unlocked voltage and good cooler.
