Hello guys,

I'm looking for a good hybrid mode PSU (no fan until like 30%/ high temp) in 600-800w range. Money is not a problem. I have a gorgeous mITX (node 304) case, so there is a length limit (165 mm, I would even say that 160 is preferred). Platinum or Gold efficiency. Heard multiple mentions of Fractal Desing's own Newton R3, but I want to see alternatives first.

My friend let me try his Kingwin Lazer Platinum and I loved it (no whine, super quiet), but it's 170mm and my case won't close

P.S forgot to mention tried AX760, f* coil whine machine pro! Good job Seasonic!

Info on the HighPower Astro PT

Funny this is a very good PSU but no one wants to give two ..... about it

Or you could look at the SilverStone Strider Gold those are pretty small
Wow thanks a lot for suggesting HighPower Astro PT, looks like it's even better then R3 for me. A lot smaller in size (by 5 mm), platinum, modular, on sale. Would have never found it on my own.

Well of course SilverStone Strider Gold is even smaller , but on our Node 304 discussion thread some people were saying that they are loudish.

SilverStone Strider Gold are a bit loud yes

Funny that everyone just pass the HighPower Astro PT over

And its made by HighPower so its 100% HighPower not something rebranded

Even has a LED light bar with colors that light up when you put a load on the PSU

Just found a review that mentions electrical noise for HighPower Astro PT by vr-zone:

It is interesting to note however that at very low loads (20% and below) the Astro PT generates a humming electric noise, which actually is stronger than the noise generated by the fan once it starts at very low RPM. The humming noise would stop at 25% load and start again if the unit was overloaded above 105% capacity. It would appear that this power supply really dislikes operating outside its nominal capacity range, although the humming noise is nothing more than annoying.

If they can spot it with a review unit, I'm afraid that retail is not gonna be any better. Back to search.

That could just be a bad one off

Like the first NZXT HALE 90 V2 had lose soldering laying around inside

But no soldering or anything has been laying around since

.... happens to everyone

Thats a CWT unit

Am really not impressed with the RM series

The Cooler Master VS does much better and its in the same price range

Looking at VS, doesn't look like it features a fanless mode. From fan curve on the website looks like a fan is always on.

RM at least has a silent mode until 40%.Plus doesn't look like etailers are selling Cooler Master VS yet.
