Okay so since new games are coming out BF4... etc... my girlfriend wants to buy me another graphics card. I have the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125418 I will tell her to get me the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127722 I'm running at 1080P. the only thing is my motherboard is x16 x4 (Which is only like a 5% difference from x8x8). What will the performance increases be from my single 7870. Like in older game such as BF3. Although I plan on playing only new games from now on.

All in all will I be please with the increases thanks to the new drivers if she gets me another 7870?

i was using a XFX 5870 on a pice 1.0a slot but the speed was still fine for a 24" 1900 x 1200 monitor. I would think you will be fine.

Even before the newer drivers came out the secondary 7870 will not even be turned on till it is needed. I am using the alpha hanger for the game Star Citizen and they both go full throttle but it is smooth, so i do not know if you will get more then 2-3 years of use from them with the more uber software coming out. They are Dx11.1 which is good though. I got reference 7870 Diamonds which are very much locked down with speed. I could only get 1100 on GPU on overclock.

The MB is GA-970A-UD3 Rev 1.0/1.1
The are pcie 2.1 x16x4

So I will be pleased with performance boost on BF3 and BF4 i'm assuming ?

i never mixed brands when doing crossfire, i think you will have to see which one can be pushed further and make that the primary card.

You'll be perfectly fine! Definitely outperforming a 7970.

According to the graph below (at 1440p and BF3) take the 7870 and give it like a 85% boost. The scaling could actually be even better. If you had 85% scaling (which is a conservative figure) you'd be right in line with a GTX 780.

I'm running my current 7870 1200/1450 @ 1.275vCore I doubt I can pull that out of the MSI.

Thanks for the scaling chart. I feel a lot better about telling her thats what I want. Thanks guys!

If anyone else has anymore input don't hesitate please!

Make sure you have a CFX Bridge. It may have come with your Mobo, GPU, or future GPU.
