If at the date of sale the policy was for 100 years, they have to honnor it.
The "day after", if they change it to 3 and someone buys it with the 3year policy, gest a 3 year policy.

That sounds reasonable I (guess), but how do we verify when the warranty policy changed? Do we depend on Samsung for that? Wouldn't they need to declare officially (legally?) when that warranty change occurred?

No offense, but is what you say a legality? If so, that will differ in different parts of the world.

I agree, I am also surprised, considering for example how many times the 840 Pro was deemed superior to the 840 (TLC) due to the five year warranty of the 840 Pro.

Hmm, I wonder if this change is a ploy to boost the sales of the TLC SSDs, since the longer warranty is (was) a major factor in the 840 Pro's favor.

I asked my friend to see if he could get any info for me. I'll update you if I get anything.

Sounds good Sean! biggrin.gif Hey, what happened to your avatar, the new one is boooring... but (!) I'll just look at Booty Warrior's instead... drool.gif

If you check this link, which is the Warranty tab available on the Magician 4.2.1 software download page, for all the 840 Series SSDs, the 840 Pro has a five year warranty:

http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/samsungssd/warranty.html

"A. Warranty Policy
SAMSUNG warrants to the original end user customer or purchaser of this Product ("You") that the Product is free from material defects and workmanship, subject to the conditions stated herein, for the shorter of: (i) a period of five (5) years for the 840 PRO Series and three (3) years for the 840 Series and 840 EVO Series, (ii) the period ending on the date when the SSD has exceeded its TBW (Total Bytes Written) threshold as may be indicated by Samsung's Magician Software (for specific information on this threshold, please refer to the data sheet for your particular SSD product, which is available at www.samsung.com/ssd, www.samsung.com/samsungssd)
"

IMO, this warranty statement looks official, so the data sheets, etc, may just be wrong. thinking.gif

Update! A Samsung rep assured me today that all pro models in fact still carry a 5 year warranty and that the 3 year listing was in error. Crisis averted! wheee.gif
