32 Bit Vista Driver with 64 Bit Vista

Thread Starter
Hello I was hoping of a way of maybe modifying a 32bit driver for my us Robotics Modem to work in 64 bit Vista. I have 8gig mem and I am running windows 7 32. I have a Vista 64 Disk and license. The Vista 32 bit Driver works in windows 7 32 so I have that particular driver. For some reason they only have drivers for this modem in 32 bit. The name of the driver is 5699-Vista-x86-v338 and The modem is the 5699B. I hope there is a way to mod the driver to work in 64 bit vista. I have to use this modem due to my internet provider.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the 32-bit driver? In some cases a released driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the OS. No way to know unless you try. The worse thing that can happen is that the driver won't work. And you may have to work around WHQL driver signing.

I solved my problem. And luckily I don't have to use Vista again, I can still use Windows 7. I came across this thread here (http://www.geoffchappell.com/notes/windows/license/memory.htm) This made alot of sense. So I modified my kernel and a couple of reg edits, And now I can use all my 8gig of mem in Windows 7 32bit. and yes I made sure it would actually be using the memory instead of just reading it. And my drivers are fine too. All you have to do is restrict mem use on the drivers that can't handle higher mem usage. It was really alot easier than I thought it would be.

Here is a screenshot \

So I can still use my old crap modem and my games run alot better. This is the smoothest I have ever ran GTA IV.

I will go to 64 bit win 7 later on when I can finally get a different internet service provider. But I am glad that I don't have to and there is no need to.
