Looks ace, I was looking into a similar thing a few weeks ago but with an old laptop screen and a lvds controller.

Thanks Johnny. That would work just as well, I would assume. Pretty much any LCD panel that you can communicate with.

Well, slight change of plans, as I was hoping to get a different update out, but I think I’ll just continue on with the LCD mounting instead.

Mosquito_NZXT_H230_PrimoChill_LRT_Liquid_DSC00315-W640.jpg
Here I have the LCD panel fitted between two pieces of acrylic.
One piece is 2mm thick and is on the front of the LCD, and the other is almost 6mm thick, and is on the back.
The 6mm is on the back to prevent it and the side panel from bending too much, and breaking the LCD panel.

Mosquito_NZXT_H230_PrimoChill_LRT_Liquid_DSC00317-W640.jpg
Little hard to see, since everything is clear, but I used 2 layers of 3M Scotch 4010 Tape. I put down the first layer, then put the LCD panel in, and put the second layer over that.
I essentially suspended the LCD between the two pieces of acrylic using the tape, to aid in decoupling any bending from the panel by way of the rubbery properties of the tape.

Mosquito_NZXT_H230_PrimoChill_LRT_Liquid_DSC00370-W640.jpg
After getting the LCD panel mounted to the acrylic as an assembly I could manage, I used more 4010 tape to mount 3 strips to the larger back acrylic panel.

Mosquito_NZXT_H230_PrimoChill_LRT_Liquid_DSC00372-W640.jpg
Reason for using the acrylic strips instead of just the tape, was so that it would be flush with the front of the LCD assembly.

After getting the whole assembly together, in comes the panel.

Mosquito_NZXT_H230_PrimoChill_LRT_Liquid_DSC00376-W640.jpg
Yes, more 4010 tape to mount it to the side panel.

Checking for alignment… pretty much spot on smile.gif

Mosquito_NZXT_H230_PrimoChill_LRT_Liquid_DSC00379-W640.jpg
A little electrical tape down first (just in case), and then mounted the PCBs with more 4010 tape, given its non-conductive properties.

And testing it out to make sure it works before I make and install LEDs.

As always, thanks for checking it out and commenting. Hopefully I’ll have an update by the end of the week biggrin.gif

I'm using a 16" AOC USB monitor that I took apart, using the LCD panel and USB controller board that it had.

haha, I posted that video a few months ago, but then only shared it last week, as I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag too early wink.gif An if you could get a controller to use the iPad screen, for that high res, that could be sweet too. I couldn't decide between LCD panel or window, and a few months ago I was at a Dave & Busters that had something similar (transparent LCD) which sparked the idea biggrin.gif

haha, one of my friends had that suggestion too. Or make it look like it's got a leak in the loop hitting the screen... if only I were better at making CG videos lol

Your idea opens a new meaning to "theme" builds... You can change your theme anytime on demand smile.gif
