FahCore_17.exe has stopped working

Thread Starter

I installed my GTX 780 in my ASUS P8Z77-V but when I start the v7 client I get the following error message: FahCore_17.exe has stopped working. Event: APPCRASH.

I don’t know if it has anything to do with this problem but my ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard has onboard graphics (HD 4000).

Could it be that the Core_17 is looking at the HD 4000 graphics and not the GTX 780?

I installed the GTX 780 back in the rig it was in last month and it’s folding.

I installed a GTX 550 Ti in my Z77 rig for testing and found that in Device Manager that both the HD 4000 and the GTX 550 Ti are shown.

I set the BIOS to use the PCIE slot but it still shows both.

Maybe there’s a way to disable onboard graphics but I don’t know how.

I don’t believe uninstalling the HD 4000 driver would remove it from the Device Manager.

I need to know what is causing the Core_17 to cash before I move my GTX 780 back to my ASUS P8Z77-V again.

How do I detect which slot my GTX 780 or GTX 550 Ti is really in?

I've searched the net all morning and have come to the conclusion that ASUS screwed the pooch with their P8Z77 boards.

I have found several individuals that have conflicts with the onboard graphics and their installed GPU.

It seems there is no way to disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS.

One suggestion was to uninstall the HD 4000 driver, shutdown, install the card, boot to BIOS and change to PCIE, boot, disable the onboard graphics in Device Manager and install your card driver.

I'm actually testing this scheme now with my V7 client.

This time when I started the client I didn't get the Core_17 crash.

It seems like it took forever for the P8900 to get to 1% but this WU was downloaded over 3 hours ago.

This was the best nvidia card I had available to test this solution.

It will be tomorrow before I know for sure that this will work.

In V7 click on slots and remove the naughty one. That's what I would do.

The V7 client slot is correct and only shows the nvidia card.

When I first installed this V7 I got a core_15 that ran ok.

When it finished I added the beta flag.

The Core_17 downloaded but when it starts it throws an error if I have the onboard video enabled.

I think it sees a phantom!

I've noticed that I don't have the last BIOS so when this WU completes I'm going to update it.

I updated to the latest BIOS for my P8Z77-V.

There was no option to disable the onboard video but ASUS automatically disables it when you select PCIE.

I selected PCIE in the BIOS and I only have my nvidia card in the Device Manager Display adapters.

I'm not going to test my V7 client to see if core_17 works until tomorrow at the earliest.
