Good system for $350.00?

Hey everyone,

I am brand new to overclocking. I just read the guide on overclocking and sort of understand it. Think if I read it a few more times and do some more research I can get it down.

Anyways, soon I plan on building a new system and I want one that will perform good. I'll have about $350.00 and Ill need a Motherboard, Processor, and about a gig of pretty good memory.

What are some good combos for a motherboard, processor, and gig of ram to get some really good performance for around $350.00? I would like a setup that is good for overclocking and performing up there with the AMD fx series if at all possible. Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, here's a good setup for an awesome price.

3700+ Sandy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103622
DFI Ultra-D: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136152
Crucial Ballistix DDR500: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148015

That is just barely over $300, and almost guarantees 3 GHz.

Hey that looks like a really nice deal! I always search Newegg for its great prices and from reviews of people I know. The only one thing I'm concerned about is it not being dual core. I don't know exactly how important dual core processing is but I want whatever I get to work good in the future with multi-threaded applications and such.

Mainly I do stuff like Video encoding/decoding, Data Compression with Winrar/7zip, a lot of dvd burning, some Photoshop stuff. I also plan to switch to Vista at some point when it is more stable and has better support.

But yeah this looks like a really good deal with qaulity materials. The motherboard has pci express, sata 2 connectors, Firewire, usb 2.0. The memory looks like it is a respectable brand based on the reviews and pretty fast! and the processor looks like with the proper cooling it would run pretty quick. So if anyone could justify if I should get a dual core processor or if a single core like this is plenty for the next few years for the types of applications I mentioned above. Thanks a lot!

If you want a dual core just swap out the 3700 for a x2 3800.

That 3700+ is the E6 stepping. You'd be lucky to get 2.85 Ghz with good aftermarket cooing. What you need is the BNBOX model, not the CFBOX.

not bad and x2 3800 can oc to 3ghz....

but u should get a athlon 3000 or 3200 and save some money.

go with ddr 400 instead.

mobo is good, but u should look into AM2.

3200 is $75

my mobo is $75 and i oc'ed to 2.8 on air, and with budget wintec ram!!

get 512mb ddr2 800 for $50 now, will be enough to hold u over.

get a 7600 (any model) i think its around $70

get the cheepest case u find.

ull only need about 450w PSU, but my 550 was $50

about $300-$400, get a cheaper GPU if u need to
