It's just software marketing. You're still bound by the laptop's integrated sound card. Even if they use a higher-end sound card, it won't sound good due to the tuning by Beats (harsh highs and muffled lows with bass boost) You might be able to modify the stock tuning though.

DAC = Digital to Analog Converter. The DAC translates the digital words into analog signals, which the amplifier then makes "louder", strong enough to drive speakers.

So a Desktop soundcard is technically a DAC, takes "digital" data and translates it to music. Better translation = better sound.

Most DAC's will have built-in amps, like Asus's Xonar line.

Just saying, if you are really into sound, get an external or desktop sound card.

sorry about that bro, just agreeing with the no HP notion.

I know Linus raves about the Acer S7, but what about the S3? http://amzn.com/B00AH4A950 for under $500. Check out the specs in detail, I don't have 1st hand experience with the Acer S series.

I hear Asus Zenbooks and Vivobooks are decent, I have 2 feiends with the Vivobook. Only gripe they said was that the aluminium lid stains super easy from fingerprints.
