Gpu temp sensor faulty

Thread Starter
Hi guys/girls,

i have these two cards in sli.
http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3613#ov
http://www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=1341

The problem is that the gigabyte one seems to have some fault on the temperature sensor since it shows 80C on startup and even if i leave my pc idle for some time the lowest it gets is maybe 75C.

I have taken the heatsink apart and put it back applying new thermal paste but still the same.
Today i thought of touching a thermometer on the heatsink to check the temp and it shows about 34C for the gigabyte and exceeds 42C for the palit (which i think its normal since its the one above)

My problem is that whenever i try to launch a game the pc shuts down because it thinks that the gpu is overheating.
Is there any way to disable the auto-shutdown? I know it sounds stupid but i dont think i am going to over heat anything else. Highest ive ever seen my cpu go is 80C and gpu 85C, and i dont stress them that much now.

Note that i clean my pc once a month and there isnt much dust in it at any given time.

Any advice is appriciated.

Thank you.

have you tried running the gigabyte solo to see if the temp sensor still reads the same?

honestly I would RMA that puppy, I am not sure without a BIOS flash that you can disable thermal trip.

I would rma it but unfortunately i bought it from ebay in january 2012 and it worked fine up to a point. Then i dont know what happened but i got to this and since i didnt have time to check it out so i just removed the gpu and continued on with my life. But 2 days ago i remembered it and got it out of the box again. If there is ANY way at all to disable the thermal trip please tell me. If it burns it makes no difference to me anyway. Cant play any games so it sits in a box by my desk. If i fix it though... smile.gif
