R9 290 --> 7950 replacement
280X = 7970
280 = 7950?
270X = 7870

= 7850
= 7790
= 7770
= 7750

Please fill in the blanks for the rest.

my brain can't even comprehend. guess i'll just stick with hd7850 then go with Nivida after that. my only beef with nvidia is no REAR facing PCIe 6 pins only SIDE facing 6 pin.

R9-280X = bad copy of HD7970GE (Tahiti XT), lower stock clocks... so unless TDP is much lower (200W) it's pretty pointless other than for marketing

Why is it a bad copy and how ? We haven't seen any benchmarks yet.

I just got both my AMD Sapphire 7970 dual-X cards about 6 weeks ago ( about 3 weeks of actually using them ).........I couldn't afford anything more right now anyways , but what is the performance gap between those and something like a 280X or 290X ? I have a hard time understanding them dang graphs.

Not much. The 280X IS a 7970...I think with a very slight bump in clock speed over a normal 7970...but other than that it's the exact same GPU.

The 290X is like 20-30% faster or there about's we believe. Nothing known for 100% certainty right now.

Damn that sucks, was thinking of flashing my cards.

Update to my post above.

Someone else might want to try this. It would appear that NO BIOS other than my stock BIOS will boot.

BIOS #1 is stock. BIOS #2 is the O/C version. BIOS #2 is the rewriteable one. If BIOS #2 is running anything other than the stock O/C BIOS -OR- the stock non-O/C BIOS it will not work.

So it might just be my card perhaps? Someone else give it a shot...don't tell me I'm the only one on Overclock.net with a set of balls! thumb.gif
