i7 3930k Temps, One Loop with GPU. Questions about temp.

Short story,

Originally had 3930k, Sabertooth x79 and GTX680, all one loop, watercooled. Went CPU > Mobo > Top Rad (RX360, CoolerMaster Blue LED Fans) > GPU > Bottom Rad (RS240, Same Fans) > Res. Fans in push config. No shrouds.

Video card died, so upgraded to a GTX780, in the process of dismantling, may have spilt a few drops in a ram slot -.-. So new motherboard. Cant fit the RX360 up top anymore due to heatsinks on new motherboard, so swapped it with a RS240 (not cooling motherboard anymore). Also changed all the fans to Corsair SP120s on a controller. Again fans in push mode, no shrouds. Btw motherboard is MSI BigBang XPower 2.

Now CPU is running at 4.2Ghz, GPU isnt overclocked, ambient room temperature would be around mid 20's. I have C1E on, and right now as I type this RealTemp is telling me 38 degrees celcius average. Clock is hovering around 4000 - 4100. I have CPU Vcore set at 1.2500, under load, CPU-Z reports it as 1.248.

Now if I use Furmark and Prime 95 (max heat) test, GPU gets to about 50-55 degrees, and CPU after about 20 minutes will be at 70 degrees, I let it go overnight at 4.4Ghz (no voltage changes) and Prime95 crashed in the morning, and RealTemp reported max temp was 91 degrees. So I leave it at 4.2Ghz.

When I rebuilt I dismantled blocks, cleaned them, replaced tubing with non-stained ones, and used distilled water only. Also when applying thermal paste, did the "line across the top, and spread out with credit card" method. The CPU block is tightened nicely, each pole has about 5 thread lines left.

New loop is Res > CPU > Top Rad (RS240) > GPU > Bottom Rad (RS240) > Res.

Oh and my pump is the PMP-450s.

My questions are:

- RS series is low fpi if I'm not mistaken, my fans (Corsair SP120's) have decent static pressure, should I be using push or pull, low or high fan speed. Don't have room in top to do both.
- If I put a bigger (fatter) radiator down bottom, and a RS360 up top will that help temps, and again push or pull.
- Are those temps ok? They seem higher than when I was also cooling the motherboard.
- If I was to do the pull setup, how do you mount everything? I assume you want it pulling through the radiator out of the case. But I can only see it being pulled in to the case.
- Finally, I have a 5.25 reservoir, after refilling should I seal straight away or leave them open for a while for air to escape?

I ran IPTD and it came back green. I did some googling and found some people have lower load temperatures on AIR than I do on water.

Sorry for the wall of text, don't think I missed anything. biggrin.gif Thanks in advance!

These temps are too hot.
I was in a similar situation, I had 5x120mm rads for SLI 780s and a 3930k. I would get 80C on the CPU(4.2GHz) and 65C on the GPU.
I put a Phobya NOVA 1080 into my loop, increasing rad size to 13x120mm. Now my max load temps on the GPUs is 45C with the CPU not breaking 80C at 4.8GHz.
Get more radiator.

Wow how on earth do you fit that many radiators lol.

Edit - Just looked up the 1080 lol. Going to buy a better CPU block, and upgrade my rads to AX360 up top and AX240 down bottom. I have the NZXT Switch 810 - so thats about all I can fit.

Temps are way too high - I have a 3930k clocked at 4.4 GHz and a GTX 690 and using just a single Alphacool XT45 280mm radiator my temps were 10c cooler.

OK, so did a small test - put everything back to "Optimized Defaults", set RAM using XMP.

Did the same Prime95 Heat Test + FurMark together. My fans (Corsair SP120) on low, don't seem to be doing anything. Soon as I max out the fans, and also the noise - temps drop a good 10 - 15 degrees.

I thought Low FPI radiators performed best with low rpm fans.
...to elaborate... by 10c cooler I mean when running Folding@home on both GPU and CPU (whichi maxes both out to 100%) by GPU temps would be like 45c-48c and CPU temps would be like 65-70c. I'm using a Laing D5 Vario pump which pushes liquid through at about 4.6 liters per minute. I'm using 1/2 id tubing to keep the high flow rates. I've since upgraded my radiator and these numbers have dropped quite a bit but it looks like you have plenty of radiator. I've never cleaned my blocks and I just kinda squished the thermal paste on there and smashed the block on top without paying much attention. My room temps are about the same as yours as well. I have a Koolance 380i waterblock on the CPU and a Koolance block on the GPUs.

My guess is that your flow rate is jacked up or maybe you're using some kind of funky coolant? Do you know what your liquid temps are and what the flow rate is?

I would suggest the EX420 or similar for the top, which fits in push-pull with my RIVE with room to spare. With that and a UT60 240, also push pull (Koolance 2600rpm), I have my 3930K @ 4.98Ghz + 670FTW @ 1320/7248 1.212v and the card hasnnever exceeded 38C and CPU maxes out at around58C. I ddon't use IBT or anything like that as I have never personally been able to find muchccorrelationbe tween being able to sustain boiling temps and stability, I just run maybe 10min P95 at the most, a few 32M SPi + 1024M wPrime, and a few loops of Vantage and 3DM11 at the most. I figure, stress testing doesn't represent anything near my usual use, and just accelerates wear unnecessarily. My view on this may not be popular opinion here, but I can go to the ROG forums and have just as many people agree with me as disagree here, so find what works for you.

Regardless, I'd put a 420 up top. More surface area than a 480, believe it or not.

RX360 I have is too fat now because of my motherboards heatsink. Using distilled for coolant, pump I'm using is PMP450s (koolance branded D5). Rated at 17.4 L/min flow rate. Only thing that has changed since new parts is smaller rad, fans and no longer have the motherboard in the loop. Oh and never ran old fans at full speed, system was near silent.

Looking at this, the goal is to be running my fans at or less than 1000rpm. http://martinsliquidlab.org/2012/05/01/alphacool-nexxxos-st30-360-radiator/4/

Thinking about putting a UT60 240 down the bottom, and the XT45 up top, was gonna go ST30, but I'd prefer the higher flow rate of the XT45.

Thoughts? Also would seem these fans have impressive stats - http://koolance.com/fan-120x25mm-90cfm - Why does everyone recommend the AP15's?

Going a 420 means new fans, and what not, unless you can recommend decent 140mm fans, that I dont have to run at 2500rpm -.-

Oh, and does fan speed affect static pressure? And i read somewhere else, radiators should be intake? Why would I want hot hair blowing all over my motherboard? At the moment, its 2 x 140mm front intakes (AF140), a middle 140m off the hdd cage, a rear exhaust 140m, and all my rad fans are set to exhaust, so 2 fans in, 5 fans out.
