Need help deciding on an HTPC graphics card

Thread Starter
I recently built an HTPC and am looking to add a discrete GPU mostly because there is no HDMI out using the on-board graphics. I'm running C2D 6550 with 4gb RAM. I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck so obviously cheaper is better in this case. It will mostly serve just as a media machine used to watch movies(1080p), play music, and maybe the occasion game of Portal or TF2 and the like. 3D support really isn't necessary. I'd prefer a card that doesn't need external power, but it isn't a deal breaker if it does

I've found a few options in the Marketplace I was thinking about picking up but can't make up my mind. Right now my Marketplace options are a 9500GS, 8500GT, HD6570, GT240, or GT610. I don't mind buying elsewhere is none of the Marketplace options would suite my needs.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

The 6570 would be my vote. I always prefer ATI/AMD gpus for my HTPC's. You may also want to look into the the 7 series variant of that card as it will probably be a little better in gaming.

I have an MSI 7870 that has just been the bees knees as an HTPC card with a little gaming thrown in. It is near silent playing BD Rips. Of course you can hear it playing BF3 on ultra, but that is to be expected. Worth it for the power imo.

Edit: Totally irrelevent to what you were asking, Sorry.

I'm rockin' out a GT240 in my HTPC and I love it, picked it up dirt cheap with a rebate on newegg and it is perfect for my use. Admittedly I don't do any gaming on that pc so I can't speak for its gaming ability but for watching BD rips it handles it like a hot knife through butter.
