So this is the issue I've been dealing with and it's trarting to annoy me as it's making it difficult to pinpoint which card is having issues with waterblocks.

I have 4 cards in crossfire, but the motherboard assigns them a completely random order in msi afterburner, gpuz or any other app.

Physical order - Order shown by apps
slot 1 - card 1 - GPU 2
slot 3 - card 2 - GPU 1
slot 5 - card 3 - GPU 4
slot 7 - card 4 - GPU 3

So, for example. When I look at afterburner, GPU 2 is physically installed in the first pice slot on the motherboard. I've reinstalled windows multiple times, and this problem persists. I know this has something to do with the resources that the motherboard assigns to each card on the pci bus, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Is it actually random, or is it going to this particular order any time you have these slots all filled?

There is likely nothing to fix; slot order does not imply device order or lane assignments.

linus had video about crossfiring 4 cards on mobo that was recommended for 3 and he had lower results on 4 cards than on 3 or even on 2 cards
The mobo in his sig states it's 4-way Xfire capable @ full 16x

The order isn't random. It always assigns the same order to the cards. It actually makes sense. I just never thought that motherboards wouldn't enumerate the gpus in slot order. I'm OCD so that bugs me. Haha
