I'm not sure if I should buy a new case or not.. Opinions?

G'day,

I'm currently drawn between buying myself a new PC case or upgrading my current Antec 300 case.

My current Antec case needs quite a few mods done to it. I'd like to paint it black inside and add a side windows so thats $25. I'm also looking to buy a new 120mm fan for the front so I have two and I'll need to replace the back 120mm; the 140mm is also quite loud.. So all up I'm looking at least $60 being needed put into my current case. I also require some holes for Cable Management.

That being said I don't mind the look of my Antec 300, but definitely prefer some of the other cases out their.

I'm really looking at the sub $100 mark for my case, unless you guys say they're not worth it of course. My plans in the future are to fit Water Cooling and upgrade the specs to most likely a 5th Gen i5 / i7 as they will probably be out by the time I upgrade.. It's currently fitted with an Intel i5 650 (1st Gen) and a Coolermaster V8 cooler.

My main concern of buying a new case is the fact it will need to fit my Coolermaster V8 cooler inside of it; unless I go back to the Standard Intel cooler for the mean time. The Coolermaster V8 is 161.1mm high, although I'm not sure if thats the whole lot including the backing.

My main choice of case would be the Zalman Z3 Plus tower for $59 + Shipping.
I really do like this case, I love the style for the price. With shipping it's about $80 though. I also don't see many Zalman cases hanging around OC so I guess there not that Great / Popular.

I don't mind the cheaper Coolermaster K380 & Thermaltake Dokker cases, but I guess at this kind of price point there not loaded with features. The Cooler Master Enforcer and Thermaltake A31 cases also take my fancy.

I know I'm looking to spend under $100, but is the upgrade to a sub $200 case worth it? Would it keep my components cooler? I'll admit when I started looking at $120 plus cases.. I was amazed. These cases are so Sexy. I mean the Coolermaster Storm Stryker & Trooper are so amazing. The Corsair Carbide Series 400 also blew me away for $120, but it does lack a side window.

If you'd like to make any suggestions I shop on www.Pccasegear.com, www.MSY.com.au/index.jsp & www.Mwave.com.au Sadly items from Mwave would need to be shipped. Pc Case Gear gives me the option to pick it up, but It's still fairly fast. I have a MSY some what close to me and I'd be picking anything from MSY up most likely.

I guess the main thing holding me back on a $200 case would be the Cash, but It's not like I have anything else to spend it on. I'm also just thinking how much overkill an expensive case when my PC is only packing an Intel i5 650, Gigabyte GTX 660 & 4gbs of RAM. Although as I said I'm working on upgrading my PC all the time and by the end of the year I should have the funds for the new setup of the Motherboard, CPU & maybe Watercooling. But I may end up holding off till the next generation of Intel CPUs.

So that's about it from me, after writing up this and looking though the cases I really do feel like a new case is on the way for me. I guess it's just a choice of what I should buy, and I will defiantly need some help from you guys picking out the Case to buy.

Thanks so much for reading though! Hope to get some guidance.

i would upgrade to a full atx case. i had a antec 900 and it was a dust magnet. also for all the upgrades and stuff you would have more room. i went to a CM hafx which is very roomy and after a year, it as minimal dust inside. sure its not a cheap case but i really like it.

the cable management is very easy and clean.

maybe the 932 is better for you price wise

Thanks for your reply. I live in a house which is very dusty and probably should have mentioned I need something with great dust filtering. It gets all though my current Antec 300. I can't say I'm that much of a fan of the Coolermaster HAF series, but I also look on the performance side; or in a case how well it works.

Yeah, I don't think I'd buy an Antec. I'm really just looking on youtube of the different models out there. I really just want something with great cooling.
