It's not even in the same ballgame. AMD were also offered PhysX years ago, but turned down the opportunity to licence it.
If you can't see why people would be annoyed that the vendor that owns 100% of the next gen console market is pushing the API used in those consoles onto PC's to only boost their cards and the advantage that's going to give them... I don't think I can explain it any clearer to you.
AMD has been the bannerman of openness, fairness and non-closed source propitiatory stuff. So unless they work with NVidia to get this into 100% of gaming PC's and work on moving away from Microsoft's stranglehold and abuse of their market position... It's quite hypocritical.
Don't care, to be honest. I'm not amd or nvidia, I'm a customer. Better performing games, great. Let nvidia cry themselves a river. Better performing games is a great benefit to the community. More console exclusives are good for the community. It creates competition as we don't settle for all of the same game.
