2GB is fine for 1080p, I only upgraded to a 3GB card when I got my 1440p monitor. Are you using the nVidia driver that was release 9/30 that included BF4 updates?

I seems people with 2GB or less vRAM and/or quad core CPUs are struggling with BF4.

Yeah got the driver, I actually went back to a previous driver though and it has improved performance for me.

I really want to get into 4k gaming tbh so I am just saving up and waiting to see what the next high end NVidia card is going to be, I used to get a lot of AMD cards, but then once I played a few games with PhysX in them I could not go back to be honest lol.

Yeah I have always had nVidia cards since a x1300 or something. I purchased the 7990 because of performance/price.

I signed up to the forum because I have been coming here for a while on and off as a guest to generally browse and now I have an issue I am looking for some input on to see if you guys agree with me.

My current PC build is as follows

Case : CORSAIR GRAPHITE SERIES™ 600T WHITE MID-TOWER CASE

Processor: Overclocked Intel® Six Core i7-3970X @ 4.6GHz

Graphics Card: 4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 690 DUAL GPU

Motherboard : ASUS® RAMPAGE IV EXTREME: INTEL X79, SOCKET 2011, R.O.G

Memory : (RAM) 32GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST QUAD-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P (4 x 8GB KIT)

1st Hard Disk: 240GB INTEL® 520 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 550MB/sR | 520MB/sW)

2nd Hard Disk : 2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD2002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)

3rd Hard Disk : 2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD2002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)

Power Supply: CORSAIR 1200W PRO SERIES™ PLATINUM AX1200i DIGITAL MODULAR PSU

Processor Cooling: Corsair H100i Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler

Now I have checked my temps while gaming and my GPU under heavy loads runs anywhere between 80 and 89 degrees depending on the game, and my CPU temps hover around the 65 to 85 mark under full load.

Now my problem seems to be inconsistent framerate and just general underperformance for the build I have.

For example in Battlefield 4 I struggle to get above 80 fps and it can dip as low as 27-30 fps, that is with maximum settings and x4 MSAA but I am aware it is a beta so I am not too concerned about that.

Another example is Arma 3 where the framerate can literally come to a crawl at times as low as 15 fps, same with the new Shadow Warrior and many other games.

I play all the games at 1920x1080p.

It just seems inconsistent for my hardware and I am wondering, is it a optimisation issue with the games in particular or am I really underperforming for my setup?

Is there any definitive software or tests I can do to have a comparison of some sort with other that have identical or similar hardware? I am aware of 3DMARK and have used it many times over the years but is there not a better comparison tool out there right now?

Or maybe someone on the forum has similar specs to me and can share what kind of performance they get?

Any help would be great and I am hoping that I am just maybe being paranoid and I have played a bunch of games recently that are just very badly optimised.

Many thanks for any help you can all give.

All I can say is VRAM. without MSAA in 1080p I was getting above 2GB of Vram used... so I think your fps drops are related to that. Remember that usable Vram in a dual card setups is half of the total.
