Unexpected shutdowns on new ASUS R505C laptop running Windows 8

Thread Starter
My mother got a new ASUS R505C laptop at the beginning of September. Several times, it has shut down in the middle of doing something like the power was cut. I know the power cord is not at fault because the battery is in the laptop at full charge. I've taken a look in Event Viewer for out-of-the-ordinary shutdowns, but haven't found anything. Windows 8 did not report any "Windows shut down unexpectedly" messages. Do you think it's a hardware or software problem?
