3930k vs 3770k

Thread Starter
Hey guys i currently have a 3570k and i am looking to upgrade my cpu for both gaming and work. I will be doing a lot of virtualization for school and stuff. My main purpose really is for work.

I will be gaming at 1440p with 2 GTX 680 in sli and my system will be fully watercooled. What are your thoughts?

the 3930k would give you more threads, 12 vs 8.

The 3770k has better single-threaded performance, but it's probably indistinguishable in real life.

The more threads that games start to use, the more the 3930k will be taken advantage of (that's a good thing)

You can probably get a 3930k for a decent price now that it's "successor" has come out.

What exactly are you virtualizing though? Most work related tasks could get away with an < i5 2400

I'd mostly say that the two CPU's will be indistinguishable in games and in workload (unless you're rendering for hours on end)

I'd go with the 3930k though for pure baller status, decent prices now, and it'll probably be an effective CPU for longer.

I am getting a corsair 850w ax, 3930k, msi 2011 board and for $600 from a friend.

I am more leaning towards that set up.

yeah just the motherboards go for 200-300 typically, then throw in a $130-$150 PSU, that THAT CPU.

Great deal man.

100% go for it

Just recognize that it won't "feel" like a faster computer. It'll take another year or two until the 3930k's advantages are realized. That, and running like 6VMs
